Cheap & Easy Father’s Day Gift: DIY Toilet Paper Roll Dad Doll

If you are a procrastinator like me, you probably need a quick and easy Father's Day craft for the kids!  This is quick, easy, and cheap and you probably already have it lying around in your bathroom.  I do like to try and be resourceful and think of ways to use things that could be thrown out as garbage.  Which is why I have a million toilet paper rolls laying around the house because I am trying to figure out ways to utilize them.  So we had Father's Day crafting time yesterday and this is the result:   So Roo helped me pick out all the colors and told me what was missing as I implemented the ideas.  She even said he needed hands!  I think I even got his hair down?!  I think my little dude shows some resemblance to Honey...don't you think?!  Well, I just need to give him some glasses and we'll be all set, maybe I will add them with some wire!   I used pipe cleaners for the arms, construction paper for the hair, belt, and pants, patterned paper for the shirt and tie and … [Read more...]

Stuck On You Valentines Printables

So I just shared about the Airplane themed Valentines Printables and now I'd like to share with you the Stuck On You Valentines Printable!  Yup, yup, I am most definitely a procrastinator so I didn't start making these printables until last night!  I found some sticky hand toys in a bin full of old Halloween favors (yup the same bin as the airplanes) and decided to make something to coordinate with them.  I got those favors from Oriental Trading and had an excess of them so now it's come to use!  But what's great about this printable is that you can use it with other types of favors too besides the sticky hand toys, like stickers, bubble gum and if you want to use it for an adult or someone who loves crafts...WASHI TAPE!  I love washi tape, anyone want to give me a valentine with washi tape?! Check out my other free Valentines printables like the Airplane themed ones and the other ones from last year, "Color My World." Princess Sophia Costume & DIY Princess Purse

So previously I shared 2 posts about Kiggster's Halloween outfits. The DIY Ladybug costume when she was one and the DIY Bat Wings that she wore for one of the Halloween parties.  Kiggster's final Halloween costume that year, per her request, was to be Princess Sophia from the Disney Junior show Sophia The First.  I know it is quite a bit after Halloween but I figured it's still a nice dress up costume for anytime of the year!  I had someone make the dress, but I made her a princess treat bag and also a super nice amulet just like the one that Princess Sophia owned.  Well, as you will see in the pictures, she is not wearing an amulet because a couple days before Halloween, she wears the necklace out and loses it!  I am so sad, I had spent some time on it and she looked so cute with it on too but I never even got a picture of her with it!  But on a positive note, the Princess Treat Bag (tutorial at the bottom of post) turned out pretty well and Kiggster really liked it!  Wasn't she the … [Read more...]

Cute DIY Bat Costume

So I shared about the costumes I had for Kiggster the last 2 years in my previous post.  We went to a Halloween party this past Friday and put her in one of her 2 costumes.  This year, she requested to be Princess Sophia and then not long after that, she requested to be a bat.  Since we were going to be attending a few Halloween events, I decided it was ok to have 2 costumes for her! First one she wore was... The Bat!  She was so excited when I first made her the wings.  I had found some nice velvet material at my mom's house and used a tutorial I found on Pinterest for DIY Bat Wings.  I think it turned out pretty nicely, despite my lack of reading and following directions!  I would have preferred them longer but I was still really happy with it and there seems to be no complaints from Kiggster! Oh and we love getting our faces painted too!  Why yes, that's a halloween bat and a "princess face" painted on her! Hope you all have a great time this Thursday! Happy Halloween!!! … [Read more...]

2013 Halloween Costume Contest

*Scroll below to see details about the Halloween Costume Contest* I wasn't always into Halloween and dressing up but ever since I've had Kiggster, it's made me motivated to become more creative with costumes and even dress up a little myself.  Her first year we dressed her up as a ladybug and I made her whole costume from the wings, tutu, and the trick-or-treat bag. Then her second year, we did 2 outfits because I couldn't resist.  I have to admit, I got both outfits on the cheap and didn't make them myself but she looked darn cute!  She was a cute witch by day and a blooming flower by night.  I did coordinate all our "costumes" for the flower costume.  I was the bug, Kiggster was the flower, and Honey was the gardener...hence the water bucket! This year, Kiggster has asked to be Princess Sophia and a bat!  I have got my hands full putting those 2 costumes together.  I will post an update once they are completed and she has modeled them both!  So with that, I'm happy to … [Read more...]

Candy-Free Easter Basket

I am tired of how every holiday seems to be surrounded by candy, especially candy geared towards our little ones.  I am trying hard to not inundate Kiggster with candy or chocolates at every holiday season and do my best to still make them fun and festive for her, as candy-free as possible.  Easter was not going to be an exception so I decided to put together a candy-free Easter basket for her.  I not only wanted to make sure that the basket wascute but also super inexpensive.   I hit up dollar stores, the $1 section in Target, and even Safeway's Easter section while they had a sale and I have to say, I did pretty good.  So good, in fact, everything I got didn't fit inside that little basket I got for Kiggster.  There is a wind up chick and bunny, mini kites, Easter themed stickers, little purse, jewelry inside carrot shaped "eggs," temporary tattoos inside of cute little eggs, flower headband, butterfly headband, bunny ears, bunny ear … [Read more...]

DIY Fuzzy Bunny & Chick Easter Egg Shaker Craft

So I saw this totally cute Easter Egg craft in the Parents Magazine and knew I had to make a version of it for Kiggster.  It's a Fuzzy Bunny & Chick Easter Egg!  What I didn't want to do was to to use a real egg, which I felt was too much work and too fragile if I used an empty eggshell or too wasteful if I used a hardboiled egg.  I decided to use an old plastic egg instead and since I was using the plastic version, I decided to make them into egg shakers!  I love musical instruments for Kiggster so I thought it was perfect to have an Easter instrument for her that may or may not withstand her rough housing past Spring time!  This craft is great to use up all that left over yarn and scrap pieces of felt laying around the house.  This is also fun to give away to your child's classmates and present them all in an egg carton!   I won't reinvent the wheel so I'm gonna let you watch the video that Parents Magazine … [Read more...]

Healthy Cheese Pretzel Recipe

I am very excited to have invited Corinna from The Sweet Spot here to share a yummy and easy recipe.  Hope you all will enjoy making it, I think I'm going to have to try this next week! When I was 12 years old, I learned how to make this healthy cheese pretzel recipe. Our neighbors across the street sent me to babysitting school with the hopes that I would become their ultimate babysitter. One of the things that really stuck with me was the importance of feeding growing children healthy snacks. The instructor taught us how to make this cheese pretzel recipe and I have been making it ever since. This recipe is so simple and you probably have all the ingredients in your pantry already! 'My kids' loved two pretzels and half an apple for an afternoon snack. I hope your kids enjoy it too! Healthy Cheese Pretzels 1 package active dry yeast 2 cups flour, plus more for dusting 2 tsp sugar 3/4 cup cheddar cheese, grated egg wash (1 egg, … [Read more...]
