Cheap & Easy Father’s Day Gift: DIY Toilet Paper Roll Dad Doll

If you are a procrastinator like me, you probably need a quick and easy Father's Day craft for the kids!  This is quick, easy, and cheap and you probably already have it lying around in your bathroom.  I do like to try and be resourceful and think of ways to use things that could be thrown out as garbage.  Which is why I have a million toilet paper rolls laying around the house because I am trying to figure out ways to utilize them.  So we had Father's Day crafting time yesterday and this is the result:   So Roo helped me pick out all the colors and told me what was missing as I implemented the ideas.  She even said he needed hands!  I think I even got his hair down?!  I think my little dude shows some resemblance to Honey...don't you think?!  Well, I just need to give him some glasses and we'll be all set, maybe I will add them with some wire!   I used pipe cleaners for the arms, construction paper for the hair, belt, and pants, patterned paper for the shirt and tie and … [Read more...]

DIY Fuzzy Bunny & Chick Easter Egg Shaker Craft

So I saw this totally cute Easter Egg craft in the Parents Magazine and knew I had to make a version of it for Kiggster.  It's a Fuzzy Bunny & Chick Easter Egg!  What I didn't want to do was to to use a real egg, which I felt was too much work and too fragile if I used an empty eggshell or too wasteful if I used a hardboiled egg.  I decided to use an old plastic egg instead and since I was using the plastic version, I decided to make them into egg shakers!  I love musical instruments for Kiggster so I thought it was perfect to have an Easter instrument for her that may or may not withstand her rough housing past Spring time!  This craft is great to use up all that left over yarn and scrap pieces of felt laying around the house.  This is also fun to give away to your child's classmates and present them all in an egg carton!   I won't reinvent the wheel so I'm gonna let you watch the video that Parents Magazine … [Read more...]

DIY Upcycled Crayons Tutorial

This project can involve toddlers but would probably be better suited for an older child if you want them taking part in the whole thing. Since I didn't want to give candy as I was sure there would be plenty going around already, I decided to go for homemade crayons, just like the ones I'd seen on Pinterest...oh yeah, Pinterest addict here!  I did end up doing some revisions to the ones I saw online and if you go on pinterest and do a search for recycled crayons, you will pull up a ton of different sources.  I didn't have tiny oven-safe silicone molds and I also could not find them in stores so I had to improvise on the tutorials that I found.  Since this is a project that involved an oven, wax, and melting stuff, I made sure I read all the directions and went the conservative route!  This is what I ended up with and you'll see some * signs for lessons learned after the activity. Supplies: Around 20 broken or unused crayons, I had a mixture of … [Read more...]
