Visitacion Valley Grocery Outlet & 2 $25 Gift Card Giveaway-Ends 5/20

This past Saturday, May 3rd was the grand opening of a much needed grocery store in the Visitacion Valley area.  Grocery Outlet on Bayshore Boulevard opened its doors to the neighborhood with some great festivities.  They gave a pallet of food worth $1000 to the Visitacion Valley Strong Families, offered free coffee, free eco-frugal reusable bags for the first 500 customers, games, prizes, free face painting for the kids, and more! This area has been missing a good grocery store for quite some time.  My grandparents, who have lived in the neighborhood for 4 decades, used to take the bus to Chinatown for all their grocery needs because they couldn't find it close to home.  However, with their age now, they aren't able to take the bus and carry all their groceries back home anymore, therefore Grocery Outlet being blocks away from their house, is something very needed!   When I lived in Visitacion Valley, I would have to drive to all the surrounding neighborhoods to get everything I … [Read more...]

Cirque Dreams Holidaze In San Francisco Until 12/15

When I first heard about Cirque Dreams Holidaze, I wasn't sure what to expect but watching their preview video clip (watch it at the bottom of this post) gave me some idea.  The show is intended for audiences of all ages, children included and so once I saw that, I knew I wanted to bring Kiggster with me for her very first theater experience!  She is 3 years old and most shows at the theater don't allow them in until around 5 so I jumped on the opportunity to take her on a date with me.  We headed for the Curran Theater on Wednesday evening for the opening night and started our adventure. The show was non-stop action from the time the curtains opened to the end, except for the short intermission in between.  I loved that the acrobatic performances were all set to a theme with a coordinating holiday song.  Each performance, there were about 20+, was different from the next and even while there were main performers, there was tons of activity going on around the main performers.  Which … [Read more...]

Peter & The StarCatcher: An Imagination-Filled Performance

I had actually watched the clip about Peter and The StarCatcher awhile back and knew I wanted to go see it when it came to San Francisco but it wasn't going to be for awhile.  So it wasn't until I received the invitation for the show that I remembered and I excitedly RSVP'd for the show.  I realized going to the show that I had no idea what I was getting myself into because all I really knew was that Peter and The StarCatcher was the prequel to Peter Pan.  So going into our blogger pre-show event, I was able to meet some of the cast for that night's show and find out what they enjoy about the show.I had no idea but Peter and The StarCatcher was  actually a show put on by only 12 cast members even though they play over a hundred characters.  Plus every song, noise, and sound effect is made by all the cast members and 2 musicians!  There is not many costume changes or elaborate sets but it calls the audience to use their imagination through the characters.  They use props but even those … [Read more...]

Wizard Of Oz Is Coming To San Francisco

I remember watching Wizard of Oz as a child and thinking how badly I wanted sparkly red shoes!  There was so much to love about the Wizard of Oz, from the yellow brick road, Glinda the good witch, the Emerald City, and an unlikely group of individuals getting united!  So when I heard that Andrew Lloyd Webber's Wizard of Oz was going to be in town at the San Francisco's SHN Orpheum Theater, I knew I had to go see it!   It will be playing for 2 weeks only from October 16-27th so I am sure tickets will sell out fast for this show.   If you are a fan like me, you should definitely go check out the musical when it opens starting next Wednesday.  I can't wait to see it on opening night and  hope I will see many of you there too! You can buy tickets at www.shnsf.com or call in at 888-746-1799.  Tickets range from $45-$210.  For more information, visit the SHN website here or follow them via Facebook here. San Mateo’s Largest Children & Maternity Consignment Sale-March 6-9th

Last year September, I posted about Just Between Friend's (JBF) Fall sale and I scored so many wonderful things from it!  JBF has 2 sales a year, a spring and a fall sale, this year's spring sale will be starting March 6th-9th.  Why try to drive around town looking for good garage sales with no guarantee they will have good quality children's items for sale.  Why not just head to JBF and know there will be tons of good quality children's clothes, toys, furniture, books, and even maternity items.  When I was at the last sale, there were items from newborn through size 14 in kids for both genders!  There was so much to buy and tons of things that I wish I had waited until the JBF sale to buy!  The exact same potty bench that I had for Kiggster at home and spent some pretty pennies on was on sale for less than half what I paid for and it was in excellent condition.  I got a lot of new (yup, even new stuff) items for Kiggster like an … [Read more...]

Chinese New Year: Traditions, Crafts, Free Printables & More

2013 is the Year of the Snake and I was born during the year of the Dog.  What is your Chinese zodiac sign?! Since Chinese New Year (or as others know it, Asian New Year or Lunar New Year) is on Sunday, February 10th, there are tons of things to do and prepare...and even tons of things on the DO NOT do list!  I pick and choose the things that I like during this time because I don't want Kiggster to lose her culture but I also know I can't keep up with all the traditions (though with some things, I see them more as superstition but depending on who you talk to, you could get a different answer)!  Mostly I do things for fun and I want it to be that way for Kiggster too as she learns about her culture. So, ever wonder why during CNY (Chinese New Year), if you walk through Chinatown, you see a pattern between all the stores, vendors, and homes?!  Below is a cliff notes version of some of the things that could help you get one step closer to understanding … [Read more...]
