Candy-Free Easter Basket

I am tired of how every holiday seems to be surrounded by candy, especially candy geared towards our little ones.  I am trying hard to not inundate Kiggster with candy or chocolates at every holiday season and do my best to still make them fun and festive for her, as candy-free as possible.  Easter was not going to be an exception so I decided to put together a candy-free Easter basket for her.  I not only wanted to make sure that the basket wascute but also super inexpensive.   I hit up dollar stores, the $1 section in Target, and even Safeway's Easter section while they had a sale and I have to say, I did pretty good.  So good, in fact, everything I got didn't fit inside that little basket I got for Kiggster.  There is a wind up chick and bunny, mini kites, Easter themed stickers, little purse, jewelry inside carrot shaped "eggs," temporary tattoos inside of cute little eggs, flower headband, butterfly headband, bunny ears, bunny ear … [Read more...]

Carrot-Shaped Calzone Recipe & Night Time Egg Hunting

We had a fun pre-Easter party on Friday and had our very first night time egg hunt!  It was a potluck and when I asked Honey what Easter themed dish I should bring, he said, "Rabbit!"  Um…no thanks Honey!  I definitely don't want to be remembered as the rabbit killer so the next best thing were Carrot-Shaped Calzones!  I found my inspiration on Pinterest and used this recipe from Inspired By Familia but I changed a couple things around.  Ingredients:  Pillsbury Pizza Dough Sausage Meat Spinach Bag of Shredded Broccoli & Carrots Parmesan Cheese Mexican Cheese Blend Stalks of Parsley for Decoration Italian Seasoning Basically I followed the instructions from Inspired By Familia except mine didn't quite come out quite as pretty looking!  I think mine turned out more rounded because I used bulkier ingredients like sausage instead of pepperoni.  I did nix the orange dye so that I could … [Read more...]

DIY Fuzzy Bunny & Chick Easter Egg Shaker Craft

So I saw this totally cute Easter Egg craft in the Parents Magazine and knew I had to make a version of it for Kiggster.  It's a Fuzzy Bunny & Chick Easter Egg!  What I didn't want to do was to to use a real egg, which I felt was too much work and too fragile if I used an empty eggshell or too wasteful if I used a hardboiled egg.  I decided to use an old plastic egg instead and since I was using the plastic version, I decided to make them into egg shakers!  I love musical instruments for Kiggster so I thought it was perfect to have an Easter instrument for her that may or may not withstand her rough housing past Spring time!  This craft is great to use up all that left over yarn and scrap pieces of felt laying around the house.  This is also fun to give away to your child's classmates and present them all in an egg carton!   I won't reinvent the wheel so I'm gonna let you watch the video that Parents Magazine … [Read more...]

San Mateo’s Largest Children & Maternity Consignment Sale-March 6-9th

Last year September, I posted about Just Between Friend's (JBF) Fall sale and I scored so many wonderful things from it!  JBF has 2 sales a year, a spring and a fall sale, this year's spring sale will be starting March 6th-9th.  Why try to drive around town looking for good garage sales with no guarantee they will have good quality children's items for sale.  Why not just head to JBF and know there will be tons of good quality children's clothes, toys, furniture, books, and even maternity items.  When I was at the last sale, there were items from newborn through size 14 in kids for both genders!  There was so much to buy and tons of things that I wish I had waited until the JBF sale to buy!  The exact same potty bench that I had for Kiggster at home and spent some pretty pennies on was on sale for less than half what I paid for and it was in excellent condition.  I got a lot of new (yup, even new stuff) items for Kiggster like an … [Read more...]

Nuby Wacky Ware Bowl With Lid Review

I love to get things that are not only functional but also fun to look at or play with.  So when I saw the Nuby Wacky Ware bowl http://nuby.com/en/nuby/solid-feeding/5207/ , I knew I had to try it out with Kiggster.  Immediately before I could even take the package off and wash the bowl, Kiggster was jumping all over me asking to have the bowl!  We took it for a test spin during Christmas dinner with my family, which sometimes could be the ultimate test because there's always pre-dinner snacks and other things so when dinner comes around, she may not want to eat.  But throughout the night, she actually asked to use her bowl, even asking if her snacks could be put into it.  We received the purple colored bowl and it comes with a tightly fitted lid.  This lid does not have any little plastic or silicone pieces to take apart, which I love!   It just needs to be snapped on tightly to the bowl to ensure that it's leak/spill proof.  When the … [Read more...]

You Color My World & You Make Me Happy Valentine’s Day Printables

So for the last 2 years, I actually didn't give any Valentine's cards out for Kiggster's friends.  One, I felt they were too young to understand what it was anyways, two, I felt they probably didn't need more candy or other paraphernalia, and third, Valentine's Day always just crept up on me before I had time to think about it.  So this year, I was determined to do something for Kiggster's besties because she actually enjoys giving things to people and making some stuff.  So I decided since Kiggster's nickname sometimes is Rayne-bow, Rayne-drop and the like, I had use that theme when creating her Valentine's Day cards.  Since I didn't want to give out candy as I was sure there would be plenty going around already, I decided to go for homemade crayons instead.  However, these Valentine's cards would go well with store bought crayons also, which I have seen on sale right now at Michaels or sold in party packs for pretty … [Read more...]

Chinese New Year: Traditions, Crafts, Free Printables & More

2013 is the Year of the Snake and I was born during the year of the Dog.  What is your Chinese zodiac sign?! Since Chinese New Year (or as others know it, Asian New Year or Lunar New Year) is on Sunday, February 10th, there are tons of things to do and prepare...and even tons of things on the DO NOT do list!  I pick and choose the things that I like during this time because I don't want Kiggster to lose her culture but I also know I can't keep up with all the traditions (though with some things, I see them more as superstition but depending on who you talk to, you could get a different answer)!  Mostly I do things for fun and I want it to be that way for Kiggster too as she learns about her culture. So, ever wonder why during CNY (Chinese New Year), if you walk through Chinatown, you see a pattern between all the stores, vendors, and homes?!  Below is a cliff notes version of some of the things that could help you get one step closer to understanding … [Read more...]

Revamped Christmas Turned Valentines & Chinese New Year: Gingerbread Cookies

I previously started a Revamped post to turn Christmas items and activities into Valentines theme.  Last time I posted about how to use your Gingerbread Houses to make a Valentines Love Shack but this post actually doubled for not only Valentines but Chinese New Year also!  Over the holidays, I purchased too many gingerbread cookie mixes and so of course, I couldn't make them all in time before the Christmas season was over.  So the first time we made the gingerbread cookies according to the package, we cut out different alphabets, snowmen, stars, Santas, and more. However, I was determined to use it before next Christmas so I decided to use it this last week to make some cookies with Kiggster. She loves rolling out the dough and cutting shapes out of them, which she did really well over the holidays and we even got some nice shapes out of them!  However, because she really loves to roll out the dough, sometimes, she gets over-zealous and rolls the dough … [Read more...]
