DadGear Diaper Bag Backpack Review & Giveaway

A diaper bag for Dad?!  Really?!  You either might be thinking, why does Dad need one or what a genius idea!  Honey has always been the one carrying the diaper bag more than I have even though it's in the awesome manly color of hot pink!  He didn't want me to carry the bag AND carry Kiggster too so he always takes the bag off my shoulders.  But he also was taking care of her full time while going to grad school for a long time and so he had to carry around this hot pink diaper bag even when I wasn't around.  He called it the big pimple on his back…some days it seemed that way too and not just because it was pink and stuck out.  But even how it wasn't the most comfortable to carry, inconvenient in terms of access to things inside the bag, stuck out awkwardly, embarrassing to carry around (even I hated the bag, the color was not my favorite and it wasn't very comfortable), and it seemed like we were forever running into people with the bag!

See why he called it the big pimple?!  Even when you couldn't see him, the bag stuck out like a pimple!

We had the wonderful opportunity to review a DadGear diaper bag backpack and this past week, Honey also got lucky and was able to spend the whole week with her instead of working at his internship.  So the bag was put to the test!  Some qualities that the backpack boasts are:

  • Patented Quick Access Wipes Case included with each bag; integrates with a specially designed window in the lower front of the bag
  • Diaper Hammock keeps diapers at the top of the pack and clean and neat
  • Spacious main compartment has a clamshell opening for easy access to contents and for refilling the wipes case
  • Two large zippered pockets with numerous compartments make it simple to organize and find everything
  • Two bottle pockets accessible from the exterior hold up to 2 bottles each
  • Stroller straps attach to any style stroller and store neatly when not in use
  • Changing pad included
  • It can hold enough gear for 3 days if in the diapering stage, and up to a week once the kids are out of diapers.

DadGear not only has backpacks but also carries several different sizes of messenger bags where some of them allow for interchangeable flaps for the Dad that wants his diaper bag to match with the day's outfit.  They also carry some ladies' diaper bags (but I've actually been loving and using Honey's backpack too) along with some really neat diaper bag vests and jackets!  Oh yeah, there is such a thing as a diaper bag vest!

In Honey's own words, the DadGear diaper bag backpack, which he picked out himself, "is very comfortable, spacious, has well-organized compartments, and allows easy access to everything!"  He was so excited to find out that we were reviewing the DadGear diaper bag and actually spent time looking at what style and print he wanted to choose.  He chose the backpack with the blue center stripe.  We took it for the ultimate test on the weekend by taking Kiggster to a park with water features!  She ran in with shoes and all and was soaked from head to toe!  Could we find everything we needed within the bag easily while wrangling a hyper and super soaked toddler?! Check! Were we able to fit extra changes of clothes into the bag?! Check! Usually Honey would have put down our old diaper bag in order to chase her around a park but he kept his DadGear backpack on the whole time and didn't once have to adjust, shift or bother with the bag until we were ready to change Kiggster!

The only thing that I might suggest for improvement would probably be the mesh pockets. There are mesh pockets on the backpack in the interior of the bag.  The material used for them is a little more rigid so it's harder to fit a bigger item into then or fit more items into the pockets.  I would have preferred a softer material that had more give to it and also an elastic opening that allows it to expand or wrap snugly around an item.  I noticed since we cloth diaper, I could only fit 1 diaper in each mesh pocket in the interior that was meant for diapers so it didn't allow me to fit more than 2 diapers total in that compartment.  Although, we have just been putting the 2 diapers into that compartment and putting more into another section, which the bag has plenty of room for, which we love!
