Journeying With a Friend

Happy Post-Leap-Day Day, aka March 1st!

I just realized today that I missed my blogiversary!  For some reason, I kept thinking it was later but guess what, my first post was February 24, 2010!  Yup, missed it by almost a week!  For months, I kept thinking about how I would celebrate this milestone but guess what, it’s come and gone and I didn’t even realize it!  I really had wanted to do a posting on the day of my blog’s 1 year anniversary that said, “Happy 1st Blogiversary!” But I guess now it will be Happy Belated Blogiversary!  I love saying blogiversary, can you tell?  I guess I will have to plan the next big thing to look forward to.  I love being able to look back at older postings to reflect over what I’ve done.  As you may remember, I started this blog as a way to keep myself from going crazy and getting depressed about having to go back to work after maternity leave.  It provided me an outlet to talk about the things that I’m passionate about and those main things being my daughter (nicknamed, Kiggster) and my husband (nicknamed, Honey) and everything relating to them!

I envision this blog being a resource to others who want an honest review of products/services that I’ve tried, loved, would improve on, etc.  I don’t recommend products unless I’ve personally tried and loved it (I have pretty high standards) but also understand that what might work for me, might not work for you.  My motto is “One size does not fit all!”  I try to talk openly about my challenges because I want others to know that they are not in this journey alone, there are others that can relate in some capacity or another.  At least I know for our family, we’ve had and still have our set of challenges and though they may not be exactly the same as what you are going through, it’s comforting knowing that you’re not alone and what you feel is completely normal.  Have you ever felt crazy for feeling a certain way (mommy guilt, overwhelmed with marriage/motherhood, etc) or felt like no one could possibly understand what you are going through (child not “sleeping through the night,” nursing isn’t as glamorous as you envisioned, pregnancy hasn’t been a smooth ride, or marriage is a lot more work than you though)?  Leave me a comment, let me know what you feel you’re going through right now and if you’d like a friend to “journey” with you through those challenges!

Via

I also like trying my hand at crafting, cooking, photo editing and much more.  I am a woman of many passions and hobbies because I would die from boredom without variety!  I’m the type that doesn’t read directions super well or excel at things such as cooking, sewing, or in fact, anything domestic! So if I can manage to cook or make something and it turns out decent or *gasp* awesome, then you know you can make it 110% better!  I wouldn’t describe myself as a granola-munchy  kinda gal but apparently, amongst my circle of friends, that’s what I’m known as because I cloth diaper, make my own baby food, use natural cleaning products, shop at local farmers markets, eat organically, had a natural birth and use holistic methods of treating illnesses/prevention before going the pharmaceutical route (even though I work in the pharmaceutical industry).

Via

I hope that after reading and touring my blog, you have found it to be something you can relate to or laugh at.  In a couple weeks (late March/early April), I will be hosting lots of giveaways.  Of course, they will only be the products and services that I’ve personally tried, loved, and now want to pass on the love to you!  Subscribe via email or follow me through another social media option (Google+, Facebook, Linky, etc) and be the first to find out when these giveaways are happening and what they are! They’re gonna be awesome!!!!

With that said, here are some of my favorite projects and posts from my blog. I hope you also enjoy them as much as I did!

Hi Julie, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

I also don't LIKE cooking but I'm trying to find ways to enjoy it more because we HAVE to do them! Wow, grandkids…one day hopefully not too soon I will be a grandma. Hope you are loving life as a grandma!

I am trying to enjoy cooking but I am seeing that when I do fun things (cut them into fun shapes, find fun recipes that aren't too complicated) that I enjoy them more!

Hi Dawn thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

You know the funny thing is, I didn't even do it for the earth. I tried to keep in mind all the things that would be healthiest for my family and they just happened to also be good for the environment/Earth! Funny how those two seem to go hand-in-hand! I am glad to get to know you too through our blogs and the groups we are in together!

Hi Andrea, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

We will have to help keep each other accountable for doing honest reviews of products, sometimes it can be easy to just talk about the fluffy stuff but not give the full "truth" on our experience. I am just starting out but have a bunch of reviews planned along with giveaways, hope you'll join me for them!

Btw, totally following you on G+, FB…pretty sure on almost every platform! =P

Hi Clarinda, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

Your blog seems so much more put together and in better shape than mine even though I have had mine for longer! I still have so much to learn! Thank you for your sweetness! Your family looks great too-love that you do baby-wearing, I still do that with my daughter and she loves it!

  10. Kangaroo Mama says:

Hi Eschelle, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

Oh no, when is your blogiversary?! Maybe we can help each other remember for next year! But in the midst of our own bdays, friends' brays, dating/wedding anniversaries, kids' anniversaries…it's kinda hard to also have to keep track of blogiversaries!

  11. Kangaroo Mama says:

Thanks for stopping by Starlene! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

Thank you for the well wishes and sweetness! I look forward to when the new site/design gets launched and sharing the giveaways with you all!

Thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

It is very easy to forget all our victories and great things that we do, whether we're a SAHM, WAHM, or WOHM but we have to remember the little things too! Like the times they hugged you just because or the time they shared a toy with each other (even if it only lasted 2 minutes), etc. You did mention cleaning, which is so much better than me, I need to do more cleaning…my house is so crazy looking'!

  14. Kangaroo Mama says:

Hi Angie, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

  17. Kangaroo Mama says:

thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

Farmers markets are great! Just wish I could get there more often than I currently do! I am glad you like the blog ideas, hope you'll come back and give me feedback on what you think, especially once the site/design is launched later this month!

  18. Kangaroo Mama says:

Hi Diana, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

Haha, some might not agree with my crafting philosophy (if you don't stick to one hobby, you won't excel at any of them and just be mediocre) but it works for me! =P I am totally following you guys on FB, hope to see more things from you and your family!

  19. Kangaroo Mama says:

Thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

Thanks for your FYI, totally appreciate the honest feedback, I need that. Since your comment, I have changed the font to something that's hopefully a little easier on the eyes! THough I will have a new site/design up soon and would love for you to visit again and bring back more of that honest feedback! Natural birthing and making baby food hasn't been as hard/challenging/foreign as people made it out to be and I am glad I made the decision to do those things because I also loved them!!!

  20. Kangaroo Mama says:

Thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

I really think blogging (and other things too) helped me with my transition back to work. Though I still hope to go from WOHM to WAHM/SAHM someday soon but for now, blogging is my outlet! Wow, teenagers! I'm sure there are challenges of it's own with more grown up kids, can't even think that far in advance about those things but I do look forward to see my daughter grow up to be a lady!

  21. Kangaroo Mama says:

Hi Pamela, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

I wish I would have been more caught up with my blog comments earlier so I could have said HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAMELA!!! on your actual birthday and not like a month later! Hope you enjoyed your birthday! Thanks for your sweet comment about my daughter!

  22. Kangaroo Mama says:

Hi Lisa, so glad you could stop by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

Thanks for the blog bday wishes! Yes, belated is better than never, very true! Thank you so much for checking out my blog and for your sweetness!

  23. Kangaroo Mama says:

Hi Ashley, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

The washing of cloth diapers has been quite a load to the task list but not as bad as I thought it would be. We started with a service first but knew we eventually wanted to take the washing over and after 2 months or so, we got comfy enough with a newborn and the idea of washing the cloth diapers ourselves. We slowly tapered down on the service as we built up our cloth diaper collection! It worked out well and we wash every other day (cloth diapers alone, not including washings for our clothes). Not sure how I'll handle more kids and all the laundry but for now it is ok! =P

  24. Kangaroo Mama says:

Hi Lynden, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

It is very nice to meet you too! =P One day we will have a big meet up hopefully where we can see all the people we meet through the blogs! Haha, the cloth diapers haven't been as bad as people said they would be and I am so glad we decided to go with them! The cloth diaper trend is making a comeback so you'll probably see more of them in the times to come! So glad you came by the blog and hope you'll come back to visit again!

  25. Kangaroo Mama says:

Hi Jen, thanks so much for coming by! Sorry this reply is coming later (Was trying to keep up with the commenting event with Blogelina)!

I am glad you enjoyed the belly pics and could share them with a friend. I hope she can be inspired to also capture some great shots. I felt insecure about taking AND sharing the pics but what other time is it ok to show off a big belly and be proud of it, right?! Hope you found other things in the site helpful!

  26. AMBER EDWARDS says:

    happy Blogoversary!

I am in the same boat, I don't see myself as a granola munching person, even though I do love granola. lol. But I also cloth diapers, use natural cleaning and beauty products, try to cook all foods from scratch, we go natural for most everything we can. For us it's not about being perfect for the planet, although that's a great benefit. For us it's about being frugal and healthy.

  27. LaVonne @ Long Wait says:

Well happy late blogoversary. Good job, on a great blog. Keep it up. Your little girl is so cute.

I love blogging too. Great place to meet new friends and read great personal stories. I started mine as an outlet when I was staying home with my daughter. It worked well.

  28. mymothermode says:

I hope starting the blog did help with your return to work. For me, doing without nice things, vacations, etc. and gaining time at home has worked wonders….and blogging gives me something "grown-up" to do!

  29. SalemMomma says:

    Happy Blogoversary!

  30. Stephanie says:

I just learned today that something I've been feeling guilty about is not just me dealing with it. there are lots of moms who deal with this but never talk about it. Anger. Even just raising your voice out of frustration – Amazing how this topic is not talked about in any of the parenting books I've read, yet seems to prevailant under the surface. Just knowing it isn't "Just me", that sometimes all of us get angry about the toddler who won't put on their shows any faster than molasses or the teen who refuses to get up on time in order to get to school. Well, just knowing that makes me feel better and able to relax just a bit. Less guilty about being that one bad parent. Thanks for offering to help anyone who feels like they just need to share.

Anyway, congratulations on your blogiversary. May the next year bring you a lot of new and great experiences.

  31. tonyknuckles says:

Happy blogversary, you guys seem to be very happy and content.

  32. Happy Belated Blogiversary! I am a variety is the spice of life kind of girl myself. I can't wait to look around at more of your blog. It looks like a good one!

  33. Happy belated blogiversary! Like you I tried different hobbies because I easily get bored on one thing.

  34. Happy belated blogiversary! And I am know as granola girl or that tree-hugger who put her babies in cloth diapers, made their food, buys organically and had chicken *gasp* for the eggs!

  35. It's great to see someone using their journey to help others! Your pictures are so cute, too! Happy Blogiversary! 🙂

  42. Happy blogiversary! I see you have had a wonderful first year. I hope to do the same as March 1st was my blog launch. I hope to accomplish as much as you have in a year.

  43. What a cute daughter you have. 🙂 Good job on going natural, using cloth diapers, etc. I'm gradually trying to become more healthy by watching the things I eat. Eventually I'd like to be more careful about what is in everyday products I purchase.

  50. Allie Rambles says:

Whoo hoo! I made it to your site. I have been seeing you everywhere and I am glad you stopped by my blog also (the one about Pinterest).

Well, happy blogiversary!! That is huge to have your blog make it a year. Many give up but I found moms do not give up that easily. I think we find solace in knowing others are out there like us. I may not blog about mommy-hood but I have been there done that. I have felt the mom guilt, mom happiness, mom anger, and mom sadness. And I still do on a daily basis at times. (Wait until you have teens, OH!)

    Glad to meet you!

    ~Allie

  51. Happy blogiversary! My blog turned 3 in February, but I too forgot about it. It was like the 28th when I remembered, though I think the actual date of my first post was February 19th?? I am not sure! Hope the second year of blogging is great for you!

Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope my blog made enough of an impact (besides giving you nightmares) that you'll come back for more visits! Haha

  59. Happy blogoversary! Your daughter is adorable!

My biggest hurdle right now is not feeling like I accomplish anything really worthwhile being a SAHM. Which I know is an oxymoron because raising children is extremely worthwhile, but so easy to loose that feeling in between the fits, dirty diapers, laundry, cleaning, laundry, squabbles, oh did I mention cleaning?

  83. Happy blogiversary! I wish you best of luck in your next year.

  84. One year..wahoo!! I like all of your visions for your blog and it sounds a lot like my own. I'm happy you've joined the group and I look forward to getting to know you better!!
