Melting In Our State Capital

Wow, I can’t believe I’m back at work this week after having been gone for like a week and a half!  It was so nice to be away…not just from work but even civilization!  We barely had cell phone reception the whole week we were gone.  Our GPS couldn’t even pinpoint our location!  All that was around us were ocean, trees, cows, sheep, and horses!  So our itinerary was 2 nights in Sacramento, 1 night in Mt. Shasta (the city not the mountain), 1 night in Willow Creek, 1 night in Trinidad, and 1 night in Mendocino-Elk.  These places were in the boondocks…actually so isolated that we even passed a city called Boonville!  Honey and I realized that we really are pretty granola-munchy because even the vacation spots we pick are that way.

So we headed off to Sacramento after Kiggster’s morning swim class.  She actually slept most of the drive so we didn’t really make any stops (she gets really tired after swimming).  We get to James and Mashanda’s new home and the moment we stepped out of our air-conditioned car…I about felt like the Witch of the West-melting!  It was crazy hot there compared to us leaving drizzly and cold SF.  That night, ‘Shanda kept talking about heading to Leatherby’s after dinner-sounded like a furniture store but instead it was…

Yup, a dessert place!  Not just any dessert place, but one that serves up gigantic portioned desserts!  So the picture doesn’t really show it well but they have the “regular” sized desserts.  Honey and I ordered a small size for sharing and that was still bigger than we would have liked.  Here’s for comparison…

The small was still bigger than Kiggster’s head!  I know, I’m such a bad role-model, putting sugar in front of her.  Side-note, my eating has been so bad lately.  I’d been really stressed going back to work and trying to balance back my life, that I’ve been going to food again for comfort.  It’s sad, I want to stop but now, I’ve gotten back to my addiction of sugar/flour/food and I just can’t seem to stop.  I’m such not a one-bite kinda girl, but instead one-bite seems to always lead to like ten more big bites!  So I had lost all my baby-weight plus some like 2 weeks after she was born but now, I’m afraid to step on the scale.  Afraid to see that my hard work over the last 2 years of keeping my eating addiction at bay being destroyed in a mere 5 or 6 months!  I definitely don’t want the Kiggster to go down that same path of having to deal with an eating disorder but she watches everything we all do around her and especially what we eat so if I don’t clean up my act now, I’m paving that same road for her!  It can be fixed…I just need to be willing and it was done once before, I can pick up my broken pieces and hop back on the wagon!  End of side-note!

That’s Honey and Kiggster sleeping blissfully on a hotel-worthy bed.  ‘Shanda set up our room and it had these super shiny and slippery sheets on there…as Honey described it, it was like sleeping on a slip ‘n slide!  It was fun and felt luxurious!  Then Honey kept talking about this Thai place that we went to previously with James and ‘Shanda where they served up this HUGE glass of Thai Ice Tea for $2 plus 1 free refill!  So of course, we had to go there again and have some.  I was so surprised to see brown rice on the menu since even in SF, capital of all things healthy, brown rice is still a rarity in many restaurants.  ‘Shanda proceeded to tell me that in Sacramento, most restaurants offer brown rice or whole wheat stuff!  WHAT?!  Of all places, Sacramento?!  No offense to any Sacramentians but, man, I was bummed that SF doesn’t even have that!  Here we all are waiting for our food to come…

Then James got a hold of the camera…

Oh scary baby eyes pic…

Kiggster has grown so much now and is taking part in most of our meal times.  This was the first time though that I made a special request for Kiggster’s meal.  I asked the waitress if we could have a couple steamed veggies with no salt just for her and they brought her out a small plate of carrots and broccoli, PERFECT!  It was so awesome, they were super kid friendly too!

That was our Tum Yum soup on top and it was pretty yummz!  I love anything with coconut milk in it!  I used our cloth napkin as Kiggster’s placemat and that worked pretty well…boy did she enjoy her carrots and broccoli.  She kept trying to stuff both things into her mouth at the same time!  She just cracks us up so much!

We spent that whole weekend in Sacramento playng this game Dominion.  Sounds cheesy and geeky but it was really fun.  It honed in on my shopping skills-it’s all about buying stuff (land, power, magic, curses, etc).  Now I want the game so I can shop some more, hehe!  Well, we spent a lot of time playing the games because it was so hot outside but I guess there’s not a whole lot to do in Sac anyways right?!  Before we knew it the weekend was already over and it was time to head of to our next destination.  More on that tomorrow!  Missed you all terribly while we were gone, but we’re back now!!!! Oh before I unblog for the day, I finally capture a photo of her cute little teeth and I have to show you guys…

Don’t you love her cute pink ruffle-butt skirt?!  She’s just too cute for words!
