Did you ever have seaweed snacks growing up?! I'm pretty sure every Asian family had some stocked in the pantry because I remember eating it all the time growing up. They came in a clear tub and individually wrapped packages. But I haven't eaten them as much lately, maybe because as a family, we've been more conscientious of what we put in our bodies. We know the seaweed snacks we grew up with weren't exactly made with quality ingredients and probably loaded with salt and preservatives, so we stayed away from them. We did recently pick up a package or two seaweed snacks from a local grocery store but found it extremely salty.
We were fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to review the SeaSnax seaweed snacks and fell in love! We actually did a side-by-side taste test of the recent grocery store seaweed snack and the SeaSnax Grab & Go Classic and found it to taste so different! After having SeaSnax, the other brand actually had an after-taste of what seemed like old oil! The unnamed brand did not taste fresh, was super salty, and didn't have the same "crunch" as SeaSnax! What makes SeaSnax stand out?! First off they are the first and only Non-GMO (genetically modified organisms Project Verified roasted seaweed snack. They use olive oil and sea salt as their ingredients plus they don't contain any MSG, sugar, transfat, cholesterol and are even gluten-free! SeaSnax also gives back 10% of their "annual profits to non-profit organizations committed to making the world a better and gentler place for our children and our earth." SeaSnax comes in full sheet singles and Grab & Go packages. What's the difference between the two?
First difference would be size, the full sheets are massive compared to the Grab & Gos, but the Grab & Go is super convenient-great for running out the door. With the full sheets, we cut it up into manageable sizes and since there was so much in the package, we had some for the next snack time too. Why should you eat seaweed?!
Seaweed is rich in minerals such as iodine, calcium, sodium, magnesium, potassium, iron, zinc, copper and selenium. Also, seaweed provides fiber, vitamins, enzymes and high quality proteins. Sea vegetables also have a higher proportion of essential fatty acids than land plants! One sheet of raw nori usually conatins about .5 grams of omega-3 fatty acids. Seaweed is rich in minerals and vitamins including iodine and iron, calcium and vitamins B1, B6, C and E. Seaweed is low fat, low carb, gluten free and sugar free. Also, the iodine found in the seaweed stimulates the thyroid, increasing metabolism and therefore burning more calories. So, stock your cabinets with SeaSnax and lose the chips!
