I had the pleasure of reviewing a SodaStream Genesis machine and have to say, I LOVE it!!! Our family is actually more of a water kind of family than soda drinkers. But whenever we had parties, we were offering only water, water, or more water as a beverage option and we never wanted to go buy sodas since they are so expensive, especially after CRV, etc. Plus we didn't like the heavy syrup taste of traditional soda and I have to say, I haven't had a can of soda in probably over 5 years. So why did I want to review the SodaStream machine?! What I envisioned was carbonated water that I could flavor myself for our family and the added convenience of having soda in our house without buying and storing cans of sodas for when we have guests and parties!
I was sent tons of flavorings to try with my Genesis machine and even got samples of their MyWater, which was what I really wanted to try because it used only natural flavoring essences and does not contain any sugar! The machine was really easy to set up-one of my dinner guests put the whole thing together in less than a minute. The hardest part about the whole process was getting people to pick which soda flavor they wanted to try! Diet, Regular, energy, MyWater, Root Beer, Ginger Ale, fruity flavors…not good for the indecisive!

All SodaStream regular sodamix uses a mixture of Splenda® and sugar. Diet flavors are sugar-free, sweetened with Splenda® brand sweetener. Comparison is based on 8 fl. oz. serving size (0.34 fl. oz. of SodaStream sodamix per 8 fl. oz. of water).
That's the reusable bottle screwed into the Genesis machine. You press it about 3 times until you hear this loud buzz and then you can press it more if you want more fizz. So this is where I messed up and got major fizz, although it ended up being a good mistake for our dinner guests. I kept looking for the bubbles and fizziness while it was still screwed into the machine but the bubbles don't appear until after you unscrew it and let out the "pressure." So I kept pressing and pressing and still didn't see bubbles and then finally thought, maybe I should remove it and see. Well, lets say there was definitely lots of bubbling going on! Our dinner guests loved it fizzier and when I did regular fizz, it was too "flat" for them afterwards! I made everyone try the water (tap water used) plain without any flavoring first so they could see the magic that SodaStream does to tap water! Everyone was amazed at the taste of the carbonated water. I could not believe it was tap water and that the carbonation was what gave the water it's crispness and almost citrus tasting flavor. It tasted better than store-bought sparkling water and all we did with the SodaStream was use plain old tap water. That saves so much money because 1 bottle of sparkling water is about $2 per bottle not including CRV! Everyone wanted to try the diet flavors and so we still haven't gotten into the regulars yet. However, everyone is loving all the flavors we've tried so far but the favorite has been Diet Cranberry Raspberry! One thing I noticed was that once the flavoring is opened, it has to be refrigerated and stays good for about 6 weeks-at least a few of the bottles so far have said that, including the MyWater.
The machine doesn't need to be plugged into an outlet but uses a carbonator which is really cool and convenient. The 60L carbonators will need to be recycled and with the SodaStream recycling program, you can exchange 2 empty 60L carbonators and receive 2 full ones back for $29.99. The flavorings range from $4.99-$9.99. Can't wait to win one? You can purchase them from the SodaStream website or find a SodaStream retailer near you. You can also win one from Subarban Coupon Mom.
