I'm already missing those "lazy days" of summer filled with warm weather and sandy beaches! Well, we didn't get too many chances to hit the beach this past summer but we did have to take a couple road trips for some weddings and to visit friends, which also meant hotel pools for us! Kiggster loves water so I try to get her any water related products I can get my hands on! I was fortunate enough to be sent the Freds Swim Academy SwimTrainer from the Thanks Mama store for review.
What makes the Freds SwimTrainers different than regular flotation devices is that rather than just keeping a child floating in water vertically, the SwimTrainers actually keep the child at an ideal swimming position on their tummy. It allows the to learn to kick and move their feet and arms properly. Children are securely and safely strapped in the trainer so there is not a worry that they will fall through while in the trainer. The swimtrainers come in three sizes/stages which are distinguished by color and each stage is meant to teach children a different skill appropriate for their age.
SWIMTRAINER "Classic" Red
Approximately 13-40 lbs
Helps a little one get comfortable in the water
Helps teach correct leg movements
SWIMTRAINER "Classic" Orange
Approximately 33-65 lbs
Helps teach correct arm and leg movements
SWIMTRAINER "Classic" Yellow
Approximately 45-80 lbs
Helps transition a child to swimming without any flotation device
When I first took the swimtrainer out of the box at the hotel, it was flatter than a pancake and needed to be inflated. What I did not realize was that it would need to be inflated in several different parts of the swimtrainer. I tried doing it manually and blowing it up myself but then had to enlist the hotel maintenance for a bike pump. I used the bike pump to start me off and then finished it off myself, it was much easier that way!
Once we got down to the pool, it was simple putting Kiggster into the swimtrainer and we went right into the water. She had her arms over the front of the trainer and her legs were floating up! It took her all but about 10 seconds to start kicking her feet and "swimming" in her swim trainer. We were in the water with her but she was kicking and moving all around by herself and having a great time!
