Wow, I can’t believe it’s December and I am writing a post that is Christmas related! Time is flying by too fast. So for the last 2 years, I have actually been looking into something like the Elf On The Shelf (EOTS), where kids can look forward to finding a surprise in the morning. However, I never brought myself to make the purchase for one because I didn’t like the message/purpose of the EOTS. I didn’t like that the elf was supposed to be Santa’s messenger keeping tabs on children and if they were “good” they got gifts and if they were “bad” they didn’t get anything. I wanted Kiggster to behave not for gifts but because she loves and respects us. Also, I hated thinking that EOTS always seemed to be a naughty elf who was checking up on all the kids but setting a bad example?! So I was thinking of making the purchase this year but using the doll in my own way. Well, in searching for the right vendor to purchase it from, I came across The Christmas Angel and fell in love!
The Christmas Angel was everything that I was looking for, it was sending a positive message, comes with a great storybook, and the angels are super adorable! They have 2 different dolls to choose from, one girl and one boy. They both were so cute that I couldn’t choose between them and so of course, it seems better to have both! We received both the boy and girl angels and they definitely looked just as cute in person. My girl angel came in the gift tin but the newer generation angels now come in gift boxes. I was able to fit both the girl and boy angel in the tin along with the gold dust and story book! What I loved about the boy doll is that it comes complete with the belt of truth and the sword of the Spirit! I love that I am able to teach Kiggster about the bible with a tool that she loves.
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6: 13-17
Kiggster could not wait to take them out of the tin and start reading the story. We gave our boy and girl angels names. I looked up names that mean messenger and Kiggster chose Iris and Ryder for our wonderful brother and sister angels! The story book is awesome, talking about how the greatest gift given is Jesus and that we should help spread that message because it is better to give than receive. The angels leave a message each morning with their gold dust and it can be as simple or elaborate as each family (namely the parents) want. It can be make a card of encouragement for someone or even volunteering at a food bank. You could also do every other day, a couple days a week or every day if you would like, it lends itself to being creative and simple!
I love how the creators Lisa and Patrick put it:
“What an amazing opportunity we have as parents to instill values and principles into our children. The Christmas season is about a precious story to celebrate a gift that none of us deserve, but have an opportunity to receive. The birth of Jesus is the greatest example of love. So how can we show the same love to others? Simply by putting others before ourselves. We should help our children focus on giving rather than receiving, for that is the true spirit of Christmas.”
So far, the angels have been with us for 3 whole days and left us a different message each time. “Show Love, Give Hugs” based off of 1Peter 5:14. “Share Your Toys” based off 1Timothy 6:18 and the latest was “Warm Their Hearts” asking us to make a warm cup of tea for someone who might otherwise be out in the cold! Kiggster…and even Honey have enjoyed searching for Iris and Ryder each morning, seeing what their message might bring! I look forward to sharing more messages with you all, keep a look out on our blog, Pinterest board, and Facebook for more updates on Iris and Ryder!
