Dishes that are perfectly sized and help you to exercise self-control?! Is there such a thing as a "diet" bowl and dish?! Think again because that's what Yum-Yum Dish strives to achieve.
I started using a small dish for snacking. As long as I didn't re-fill the bowl, I could never over-snack! In a short time, I was back to my original weight. I thought others might like to try out this simple method of portion control. The Yum Yum Dish was born, a 4 oz. dish that's fun and easy to understand…A Yum Yum dish is a creative gift for the foodie in your life and a smart addition to any weight loss plan. ~Tracy Alder, Creator of Yum Yum Dish
The bowls and dishes each come in sets of 4 and each set contains four colors (cherry red, bold blue, pistachio green, and sunshine yellow). Each bowl and dish comes with the phrase "Yum Yum Time Is Over" written inside of them. The dishes have the added feature of a subtle message on how much of each different types of food to put on your plate. It's printed in a pale yellow so it's not annoyingly bright or "diet" dish-like but just subtly has lines that mark how much protein, veggies, and carbs to put on your dish-veggies take the largest amount of space on the dish! The bowl is actually the perfect size for Kiggster to use because we can fill it with some snacks like fresh blueberries, cereal, oatmeal, and it's just enough for her and if she doesn't finish it, it comes with a lid that I can pop on and stick into the fridge for her next snack. The bowl & lid, however, should not be used as a travel container because the lid is not leak proof. Though Kiggster's little hands fit perfectly around the bowls and she likes holding it while watching TV or running through the house with her bowl of snacks!
Honey and I like using the dishes because it's not as big as our "normal" dinner plates and the dishes actually are not flat but to me, seem more like a cross between a bowl and a dish. We love it because a lot of our meals can contain a lot of sauce and we know with the Yum Yum dishes, we won't have a messy spill on our hands. We love laughing about how "yum-yum time is over" every time we get to the bottom of the plate and have never felt like it was a diet dish but use it just like we would any other dinner plate we own. We've actually even used it when we had company around and have gotten some laughs and compliments on it too!
I did wish that the bowls and dishes had icons on the bottom noting if they were dishwasher, microwave, or oven safe. Instead, the information is on their FAQ section on the website. The bowls and dishes are microwave and dishwasher safe, however, after putting it in the dishwasher several times, it seems the bottom of the dish has already presented itself with a small chip so the best may be to hand wash them.
Yum Yum Dishes are perfectly safe for the dishwasher and the microwave. However, like most ceramic products, these little guys will last longer if you handwash. Some 'crazing' of the top glaze may appear over time if you subject your Yum Yum Dishes to heat applications on a continuous basis.
